What is SSL domain validation (DV)
A Comdo SSL Certificates domain validation, or DV, is used by the CA Comodo before issuing an SSL certificate to verify
the person making the request is in authorized to use the domain related to that request.
Usually This can be done in just minutes.
Comodo Essential SSL Certificate DV SSL Validation Requirements
The Comodo CA send the authentication email to one of five pre-approved email addresses associated with the domain. The five pre-approved addresses are:
- Admin@the-name-of-your-domain.com
- Administrator@the-name-of-your-domain.com
- Webmaster@the-name-of-your-domain.com
- Hostmaster@the-name-of-your-domain.com
- Postmaster@the-name-of-your-domain.com
Comodo Essential SSL Certificate DV SSL Validation Alternative Methods
There are two additional ways to do the Domain Validation requirement, Those alternative methods are :
- File-Based Authentication – The CA (Comodo) will provide you with a text file that you have to upload to the root directory of your website , this file can be downloaded from your client area when you finish issue the certifiate . Then this will be verified by the CA via HTTP or HTTPS.
- CNAME-Based Authentication (Comodo Only) – Comodo will provide you with two unique hash values (these are MD5 and SHA1). You, in turn, must enter them in your CNAME DNS record. You must use the following format:
.yourdomain.com CNAME .comodoca.com. Once this is complete, Comodo will check on it and use it to satisfy the Domain Validation requirement.
