Enable cPanel Leech Protection for a directory

cPanel Leech Protection interface allows you to detect unusual levels of activity in password-restricted directories. After you set the maximum number of logins within a two-hour period, the system redirects or suspends users who exceed it. This is useful if, for example, someone posts a user’s login credentials on a public site.

What is cPanel leech protection?

Leaching Actions occur When users publicly post their username and password , then unauthorized visitors can that credentials to access secure folders of your web site.

Fortunately cPanel provides protection against leeching by limit the number of user to access a secure area of your web site within specific hours period. For example, you can limit users to four logins over a tow-hour period. If users exceed the login limit, cPanel provide feature to redirect them to another URL, or send an alert email, or simply disable their account.

How to Enable leech protection for a directory

  1. Login to your cPanel account using your credentials .
  2. From cPanel dashboard locate Security tab and click Leech Protection link.

  3. From the next page you can select by click the folder you want to configure leach protect.

  4. on the Leech protection page for the selected folder you can start Set up Leech Protection:
    1. Number of Logins Per Username Allowed in a 2-Hour Period:enter the number of logins allowed per username in a two-hour period.
    2. URL to Redirect Leech Users to:Enter Custom URL to redirect users to another web page when their account is compromised.
    3. Send Email Alert To:Tick this option to receive an email alert when an account is compromised
    4. Disable Compromised Accounts:Tick this option to simply disable accounts that are compromised.
  5. Then Click Enable Button.and you will get green message Leech Protection enabled.for your directory.

How to Disable leech protection for a directory

  1. Login to your cPanel account using your credentials .
  2. From cPanel dashboard locate Security tab and click Leech Protection link.
  3. click the folder that you want to disable the leech protection “ cPanel leech Protection This icon will indicate that the folder is Leech protection enabled”.
  4. Under Disable Protection click Disable button.And you will get green message of Leech Protection Disabled!
